The History Walking Guide - on your iPhone

Guide screen

For each of the stops on the tour there is a screen with a photograph of the view at that particular stop.

To start the audio guide, press the play button. To pause it, press it again. The audio guide can be rewound and fast forwarded by moving your finger along the slider bar.

If there are more than one image for that stop, then these can be viewed sliding your finger (from right to left) across the photograph. The number of white dots underneath the picture corresponds to the number of pictures.

When you are ready to move on to the next stop, slide your finger (from right to left) across the bottom portion of the screen and the compass screen (see below) will appear.

Compass Screen

Between every stop, there is a compass screen. At the top of the screen is the distance to the next stop and the arrow points you in the right direction.

Because modern buildings contain large amounts of metal, they can distort the magnetic field causing compasses to jump about. If this happens, don't worry, just keeping walking and the compass will settle down.

To help you further, there is an audio guide telling you which way to walk and this is also written at the bottom of the screen.

If you need further help there is also a map screen (see below).

Map screen

The map screen shows each of the stops on the tour (starting at the pin with the "S" and finishing at the pin with the "F").

If you press on any pin, the name of the stop comes up. If you press it again, this will take you to that particular screen.

If you press the arrow button on the top right of the screen, your position will appear as a blue dot. If you press it again, the whole map will rotate to match your heading.

To go back to the tour, press the 'Walk' button at the bottom.
